Pepper Pike Councilwoman Jill Miller Zimon said she is glad there is a holiday celebrating King’s life, and also that the country takes time to reflect on the struggle for civil rights.I was speaking specifically about how there's a debate over whether Black History Month should be abolished (read the Plain Dealer's Phillip Morris from last year and listen to this WCPN piece on the same topic last year), but that I know I am glad we commemorate, at a national level, MLK.
“Martin Luther King and the fight he fought and all the people who followed him have just as much relevance now, if not more,” Zimon said. “It gives you the courage to stand up.”
